Author's first job
The above image is of myself only from when I was Appointed J.R.F. at the Earth and Environmental Science Department of KSKV Kutch University, Bhuj- Gujarat -India.
This was my first job experience as an MSc. Microbiology fresher. and what an experience I must say. Basically, it was an N.G.O.-funded Project and we were developing a microorganism-based biofertilizer to help the farmers of deserted areas of Kachchh.
The process of making such biofertilizer is; one collect soils from the root area of plants grown in so and so area. The area near the root of the plant is called the rhizosphere which contains rhizobium the genus of gram-positive bacteria that helps in fixing Nitrogen into soil. After collecting the soil the screening process starts by the use of different mediums available for the growth of the desired bacteria genus. After lots of repetitive studies, a certain strain of bacteria is selected and sent for sequencing for confirmed identification after that the mother culture is stored and used by making further batches containing a bacterial load of more than 10000 CFU. Purity checks of such batches are done at certain time intervals to ensure there is no contamination.
After the batches are ready they are dispatched in a sterilized air-tight container containing growth medium for bacteria and applied at 2 stages. One by socking seed before planting and Second by Mixing it with water supply.
